Bible Verses

John 13:1-17
1 It was just before the Passover Festival. Jesus knew that the hour had come for him to leave this world and go to the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end.
2 The evening meal was in progress, and the devil had already prompted Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, to betray Jesus. 3 Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God; 4 so he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist. 5 After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him.
6 He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, “Lord, are you going to wash my feet?”
7 Jesus replied, “You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.”
8 “No,” said Peter, “you shall never wash my feet.
Jesus answered, Unless I wash you, you have no part with me.”
9 “Then, Lord,” Simon Peter replied, “not just my feet but my hands and my head as well!”
10 Jesus answered, “Those who have had a bath need only to wash their feet; their whole body is clean. And you are clean, though not every one of you. 11 For he knew who was going to betray him, and that was why he said not every one was clean.
12 When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place. “Do you understand what I have done for you? He asked them. 13 You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what I am. 14 Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. 15 I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. 16 Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. 17 Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.

Luke 10:38-42
38 As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. 39 She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. 40 But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”
41 Martha, Martha, the Lord answered, you are worried and upset about many things, 42 but few things are neededor indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”

Welcome to Haidian Church!  It’s my pleasure to share with you again, last time we talked about God is changing China, Amen. God is changing China, He is changing China through us, because we are His beloved children.

With Jesus, we always have good news, anything good is from Jesus, we should just get the good stuff and we don’t want the bad from the world. If you hear anything good, it must be from God, the gospel is the best news! Amen. We are holding the Bible, the Bible is the all time best seller. We’ve got New-York best seller, Beijing best seller,.. etc, and we’ve got an all time, every corner of the world, every place best seller, it has been best seller for about 2000 years - the Bible, I encourage you to read it.  When you read the book, you will see Jesus. Amen.

God has a mission for us, God is changing China right here and right now. And that is why you are here.  No matter where you are from, from China or else where, that is the reason why you are here. You may think you have other reasons: Why am I in Beijing? Because I was born here, or because I came to work here,  a BeiPiao (北漂) or ZhongPiao (中漂) or anyway. That is the reason why you are right here right now - because God is changing China though us!   Your life has a special purpose, there is a big purpose in your life. Your life is not just a coincidence, it’s not like what Darwin said as a coincidence. No, never. Your life has a purpose, the purpose is very important, the purpose is so fulfilling. We’ll touch the purpose of God in your life, and you will feel the pleasure and joy.

Have you heard of Eric Liddell? He was the first Chinese Olympic gold medal winner,  his parents were missionaries from the UK, he was born in China and died in China, and he was good at running. Eric said “when I run, I can feel the pleasure of God.”  In the same way, your life is not just about money, about getting a good job, about being good looking, or buying a place to live in Beijing or anywhere...  No, your life is much more than that.  Your life has a special purpose, and in God you can find your purpose.

As I share with you that God is changing china, I also would like to share with you a vision from one of my best friends back in UK.  He is not a pastor, but he saw a vision. You don’t have to be a pastor to see visions, you don’t have to be a pastor to hear God’s voice.  If you agree with me, say Amen!  Yes, when you say “Amen”, you are saying “I believe.”   There is power in saying “Amen”.  I will share with you this vision from my friend.

He said one day when he was praying for China, while he loves China like you do here. You love China and you want to be part of China, right?  He said “I saw a vision from God.” The vision is like this,  he saw a very dark area,  China, and Chinese map. In his vision, it is all dark, like in the darkest night. And he saw a big hand, a huge hand, scatterring around some flames on the Chinese map. There were some flames there, as He has done that, He scattered little flames around China. And this big hand got underneath and turned on the knob.  (Do you know knob? When you get a gas cooker, when you turn the knob, you get flame.)  So this big hand was going underneath and turned on the knob. As He turned the knob, the little flames became a big fire, the whole China was lightened up.  That was the vision he saw.   I believe God is doing that in China now,  how glad we are to be part of it. Amen!  I am so excited to see China to become really strong in God's sight.  Let’s do His will! Amen.

We are talking about Jesus today, I always want to talk about Jesus, because He is the center of everything. In the Bible, it says Jesus is the One Who holds everything together. Those people who don’t have Jesus in their lives may feel emptyness.  You want the enjoyment, you want the joy of life, but you just can’t find it.  You may look for it from job to job; or from girlfriend to girlfriend; or boyfriend to boyfriend, or both; you may look for it form place to place, but you just can’t find the real thing,  Jesus is real, He holds everything together. If you feel: “Well, Bing, I feel my life is falling apart, I feel there is emptiness in my life.” You know what?  Please get Jesus in your life.

In the Old Testament of the Bible, there was one time Israel people were very badly sick. They pleaded to Moses: “Moses, we are dying. How?” and Moses pleaded:”God, they are dying, Help!” and God said: (you know, every time you cry to God, God responds to you. Amen.) “Make a bronze snake, and lift it up, as the people life up their eyes to see this snake, they will get completely healed from seeing it.”  Our mission is to lift up the brown snake, the brown snake actually is a picture of Jesus.  When Jesus says (John 3) in the same way Moses lifted up the brown snake, the Son of Man will be lifted up. So everyone who sees Him, believes in Him, will be saved. Amen.

Our mission is to lift up Jesus, in every part of our ministry, in every part of our church life.  If we lift up Jesus, and people see Him, they will be healed. You are not here to see me speaking, you are here to see Jesus Christ. When y ou see Jesus, we will see Him from your heart, you will be healed. No matter what problem you’ve got in your life, when you see Jesus, you will be healed. We want to lift up Jesus high for people to see Him. So in our serving to God, it is not about us, it is all about Jesus. Amen.

We love to talk about Jesus’ mission. Jesus is our king, kings are always majestic, glorious, but Jesus is a serving king.  He serves us because he loves us, this is not easily understood by a lot of people, not by me also in my early days of Christianity.  It took a long time for me to understand that Christianity is never about what you do,  but  about what Jesus has done for you. It is not about a big “do”, but a big “done”.  The reason why I am saying this is because we are talking about Jesus' mission. The mission is not about what we do, it is about what Jesus has accomplished for us.

When Jesus comes to the earth, He has a mission, the mission is to save us.  Do you know the meaning of Jesus’ name?  When we pray, we say:”in Jesus’ name. ” Jesus means Savior. Christianity is not about what we can do to be a better person, no, never, all other religions have got that idea, to be a better person out of self efforts.  Christianity is not a religion, it's a relationship between God and man, and each others.  Christianity is not about what you do to be a better person, it's what Jesus has done to make you to be the son and daughter of God, Amen, it's all about Jesus.

When Jesus comes to the earth He wants to save us, and Jesus has died on the cross for us, he took us place, we are sinners, and he gave us his own life, He was cursed so that we can be blessed. The picture of the brown snake is a picture of curse, as Adam and Eve sinned in the garden of Eden, they sinned and they were cursed.  God is righteous God, if you break the law, if you are not obedient to Him, there will be consequences. He can’t bend His law, and He loves us.  The only way to get us saved out of sin, out of curse, out of the power of evil, is for Jesus to take our sin away.

When Jesus died on the cross, he saw our sins from our birth to our death,  Jesus cried: "God, why have you forsaken me?" You find no where in the Bible but this place, Jesus is calling our Father “God”. When you say "God", there is a distance, but "God the Father", it is Jesus Aba Father, that is the ONLY place He called God, because he took our place,  so that we can take His place and cry out:” Father, Father, why have you so loved me?  why have you so blessed me? "  Because Jesus was cursed on our behalf, so that we can be blessed on His behalf,  Amen!

It is not about what we do, we can never fulfill the Law, the lord is perfect, there is only one person who can fulfill the Law, and that is Jesus Christ. The more you try to fulfill the Law by your own strengths, the more you fail.  That’s why we need a savior, we don't need a teacher, because when a teacher teaches you, he expects you to do your homework, but it is still the responsibility on us to fulfill it.  He is the savior, He saved us when we were most hopeless. Amen. So if there are any problems in your life, please read the Bible, pray and seek Jesus, see how He comes to rescue you.  He came from Heaven to rescue you, that’s what he did for you, He died on the cross. He not only died on the cross, he also suffered so much.

When we think about Jesus, we always picture Jesus as meek and gentle, very gentle, He speaks gently, we always picture Jesus like that. But actually Jesus is the toughest person in human history, because He took all the beating, all the strikes, died most painfully for us, He loves us. And in His strikes and His pain, we are healed. Amen.  Today we don’t have to only rely upon our own strengths, we look upon Jesus.  When you look to Jesus, you are healed, you are blessed, and you are saved. Amen.

There are two things, two pictures most symbolize Jesus’ love and service to us.  Do you know what they are? One is His death on the cross; the other one is Jesus washing his disciple’s feet.  Please turn to the Gospel of John chapter 13 from verse one, Jesus on the night of Passover, He went to wash His disciples’ feet. The Bible says He knows it is the time to “go to the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end.” (John 13:1)  He now shows them the full extend of His love in washing His disciples’ feet. This is not easily understood by his own disciple Peter, Peter said:” You should never wash my feet.(John 13:8)  Have you ever ask yourself this question, if Jesus has come to wash your feet, would you allow Him? Would you response in the same way that Peter responded?   He is the king, He is the Lord, He wants to wash your feet.  deep in my heart, I don’t want Jesus do that to me, - I'm not worthy, I can do it, I can manage, don’t serve me.  But that’s not Jesus’ heart, Jesus told Peter: “If you don’t let me, if you don’t allow me, then you have no part of me.” Jesus said He hasn’t come to be served, but to serve. He is the king, the serving king, and he serves us. Do you allow Him to serve you?

We are served by Jesus, we believe in Christ we are saved, it’s his service to us. He saves us and it is the way He serves us, His salvation is nothing that we can do, it's all accomplished by Him.  And what’s our part?  If it’s all about Him, then what’s our part? Our part is to believe in Him, to allow Him to save us. That’s the salvation, that’s the faith of salvation. When we talk about faith, have faith in God, it’s actually to rely on Him, rely on His work for us, Amen.

In the book of Hebrews, it’s always the lesser who is blessed by the greater, God is the greater, he wants to bless you. When you are blessed, you will be a blessing to others. Sometime you may not be conscious of it. I know a sister in UK; she is always happy, so happy. Why? Because she allows Jesus to serve her. And when other people see her, they are just blessed instantly. She didn’t do anything, but they are blessed. But In the UK, I've notised some people are depressed, the same everywhere, but the good thing is, when you rely on Jesus, He is the best stress release pills, and He is the best make-up, and I’ve noticed Christian girls are definitely more prettier.

Rely on Jesus’ service to you, not only your service to Him. This connects to another story in the Bible, there is a story of Martha and Mary (Luke 10:38-42), they were sisters. Jesus came to their house, Martha went to serve them, and she was so busy serving, doing everything. Women were great, they could do a lot of things all together, and we call them multi-task processor Intel. But Mary, what did she do? She came to sit by the feet of Jesus and listened to what Jesus was saying. And Martha was not happy, she came to blame Jesus and Mary. She said: “Lord, why do you allow Mary to sit here, and let me to do all these works?”   Jesus said:” Martha, Martha, you are troubled by many things. ” Jesus didn’t blame her for her much service, but He said “you are troubled by many things. But only one thing is needed;  Mary has chosen the better part, and it shouldn’t be taken away from her. ”

Only one thing is needed. What is it?  To be served by Jesus, have time with Jesus.  Actually I shall ask you this question. What’s the secret in pleasing Jesus? If you compare Martha with Mary, what’s the difference?  The secret is the way they see Jesus is different. The way you see Jesus determines the way you serve Jesus.  The way they see Jesus is different, when Martha saw Jesus, she saw a man in need of food and service; but when Mary saw Jesus, she saw Jesus as God, full of power to bless us, to teach us. So she sat at the feet of Jesus and to get the power from Him, to be served by Him.

If you say: “well, Bing, if you gave this message, then people in the church will get lazy.” I think a lot of people would rather be blessed. That’s the good thing, but what about the works? We need to do works. It’s not about that, when you are served by God, you will end up at the right place at the right time, because if you see a story behind that, Mary was the only one who anointed Jesus, while other people didn’t even have a chance after Jesus’ death. Mary anointed Jesus before he died, and other disciples blamed her, “The oil is so expensive, why don’t you spend it on poor people?”  Jesus said: “You will always have the poor among you, but you will not always have me.  Whenever you go to preach the Gospel, you should tell others about what this woman has done to me. ” (John 12:8) Apparently Mary knows the heart of Jesus, and the heart of Jesus is to serve you, is to bless you, is to love you!

So everyday let's give Jesus a little time to be blessed. Usually you have tea-breaks,  lunch breaks, why don’t you take a love-break from today? Do you know what love-break means? Take break for Jesus to love you, spend some time with Jesus, you say: “Jesus, I allow you to come into my life,  I invite you to love me. ” And you will be blessed, Amen.  When you are blessed, you will be a blessing to others.

That was Jesus’ mission when he was on earth to save His people.   In His second coming, He will come with glory and He will judge the world. When He comes again in the future as a serving king as well. If you look at the book of Revelation, John saw the vision of Jesus’ second coming, he was carrying his wounds, he saw the vision of the Lamb of God, in glory with angels around him. He saw the Lamb of God, He looks as if he was slain. When Jesus comes again, you can still see as if he was slain. Why?  At end of the world, we will all be resurrected, we will have a new body, glorious, spiritual body, the body which is the prettiest, the strongest for man, handsome, without blemish, without wrinkles. When we resurrect, we will have the best body ever.  But Jesus, even though he resurrected, he is still carrying his wounds from the cross. Why is that? He is proud in dying for you, until all God children come to heaven. Amen.

In heaven, everything is perfect, all the floors will be made in gold, jade, crystal clear everywhere, beautiful. And the most beautiful thing is we can be with God forever. Amen! I am so dreaming about that. Maybe it is good for me not to talk too much about heaven, because you may want to pass away now, we haven't finished our work on earth. Everything is made perfect, no sins, no cry, no tears, but the only man-made thing in heaven is Jesus’ wounds, and He carries them,  because He is proud in loving you, He is proud in serving you, He is proud in dying for you, He still cares about us until we get to heaven, that is our God, that is our Jesus. Amen!  We are blessed by God, Amen, we thank God!

Worship Song:  Hosanna

I see the King of glory, coming down the clouds with fire
The whole earth shakes, the whole earth shakes

I see His love and mercy, washing over all our sin
The people sing, the people sing

Hosanna, hosanna, Hosanna in the highest
Hosanna, hosanna, Hosanna in the highest

I see a generation, rising up to take the place
With selfless faith, selfless faith

I see a near revival  stirring as we pray and seek
We're on our knees, we're on our knees

Hosanna, hosanna, Hosanna in the highest
Hosanna, hosanna, Hosanna in the highest

Heal my heart and make it clean
Open up my eyes to the things unseen
Show me how to love like You have loved me

Break my heart for what breaks Yours
Everything I am for Your kingdom's cause
As I walk from earth into eternity

Hosanna, hosanna, Hosanna in the highest
Hosanna, hosanna, Hosanna in the highest
