Today is Easter! 复活节快乐! And isn’t it a great day? We have so much to be thankful for. Today is the day that Jesus rose from the dead to give us a way to salvation. It was 2,000 years ago that Jesus Christ willfully gave his life for our sake. He loves us so much, and we are so thankful that he overcame death so that we don’t have to. I think Easter is in the spring for a reason—the time of year that we see new life. This is exactly what Jesus has given us!

Today’s sermon is entitled “A God Who Still Moves Stones.” The verses Pastor Wu used today come from John 20:10-18. The tomb stone was rolled away. Jesus appeared to Mary Magdalene and she said “I have seen the Lord.” He has risen!

10 Then the disciples went back to where they were staying.
Jesus Appears to Mary Magdalene
11 Now Mary stood outside the tomb crying. As she wept, she bent over to look into the tomb 12 and saw two angels in white, seated where Jesus’ body had been, one at the head and the other at the foot.
13 They asked her, “Woman, why are you crying?”
“They have taken my Lord away,” she said, “and I don’t know where they have put him.” 14 At this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not realize that it was Jesus.
15 He asked her, “Woman, why are you crying? Who is it you are looking for?”
Thinking he was the gardener, she said, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will get him.”
16 Jesus said to her, “Mary.”
She turned toward him and cried out in Aramaic, “Rabboni!” (which means “Teacher”).
17 Jesus said, “Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’”
18 Mary Magdalene went to the disciples with the news: “I have seen the Lord!” And she told them that he had said these things to her.

How is it that God still moves stones? God wants us to be free. He wants us to live freely in the salvation that he has given us. Although we are sinners, he wants us to live redeemed, forgiven lives. Since Jesus has died for us so that we may live, we must not live in the shackles of sin. Guilt and shame have no place in our lives.

Therefore, we must allow God to roll back the stones from our lives. We all have stones in our hearts. We all encounter hardships, we all have sin in our lives. It is very easy for us to hide it in our hearts and roll a stone over it. In this way, we hide it, we try to forget about it. But God desires to takes these stones away. If we are not willing to let God take these stones away, how can we live in the fullness of God?

Jesus died for us. Easter is the day for us to remember His sacrifice for us. The moment Jesus’ life ended on the cross, the curtain in the temple was torn. We were given access to the Holy of Holies. We have the opportunity to enter into a personal relationship with Him. He wants to take away the sin in our lives and gives us fulfilling, purposeful lives.

Will you allow Him to roll away the stone in your heart?

Worship song: Because of You mp3 lyric

    Because Of You

Because of You, I was born again
Because of You,  I’m ransomed by Your grace
Because of You, my heart has found a home
A refuge for my soul

Because of You, sins are washed away
Because of You, heaven knows my name
Because of You, I can live again
You’ve broken every chain

Unfailing love, so unreserved
You gave yourself on Calvary
And now I stand, forever free, My Savior rescued me

Because of You, the weak say “I am strong”
Because of You, the broken have a song
Because of You, there's no need to fear
Hope steadfast, ever sure

Now heaven, be open
Our God is unshaken
We worship Christ risen High above
Now heaven, be open All kingdoms, all nations
Declare that You are God
