Bible Verses Isaiah 46:1-13 (NIV, 2011)
Isaiah 46 Gods of Babylon
 1 Bel bows down, Nebo stoops low;
   their idols are borne by beasts of burden.
The images that are carried about are burdensome,
   a burden for the weary.
2 They stoop and bow down together;
   unable to rescue the burden,
   they themselves go off into captivity.
 3 “Listen to me, you descendants of Jacob,
   all the remnant of the people of Israel,
you whom I have upheld since your birth,
   and have carried since you were born.
4 Even to your old age and gray hairs
   I am he, I am he who will sustain you.
I have made you and I will carry you;
   I will sustain you and I will rescue you.
 5 “With whom will you compare me or count me equal?
   To whom will you liken me that we may be compared?
6 Some pour out gold from their bags
   and weigh out silver on the scales;
they hire a goldsmith to make it into a god,
   and they bow down and worship it.
7 They lift it to their shoulders and carry it;
   they set it up in its place, and there it stands.
   From that spot it cannot move.
Even though someone cries out to it, it cannot answer;
   it cannot save them from their troubles.
 8 “Remember this, keep it in mind,
   take it to heart, you rebels.
9 Remember the former things, those of long ago;
   I am God, and there is no other;
   I am God, and there is none like me.
10 I make known the end from the beginning,
   from ancient times, what is still to come.
I say, ‘My purpose will stand,
   and I will do all that I please.’
11 From the east I summon a bird of prey;
   from a far-off land, a man to fulfill my purpose.
What I have said, that I will bring about;
   what I have planned, that I will do.
12 Listen to me, you stubborn-hearted,
   you who are now far from my righteousness.
13 I am bringing my righteousness near,
   it is not far away;
   and my salvation will not be delayed.
I will grant salvation to Zion,
   my splendor to Israel.
Sermon by Pastor Wu:

Good morning brothers and sisters, it is such a joy to come back to worship with you together again. It is also such a joy to preach three times in a row, because this is the third time1 for me to stand up here this morning. It is also a joy, a blessing and grace from the Lord upon me, so for that I give Him thanks. And I do apologize, as our leader this morning has also apologized, that we had to keep you waiting outside the church and to have you standing in line, probably some of you stood there waiting for coming into the church for about an hour. Some of you waited for us even longer. I praise the Lord for your hearts and for your love for the Word of God. I praise the Lord for that. And I do give thanks and praise the Lord’s Name that sixty of the new believers are going to be baptized this morning. I’m very happy for that and my heart is filled with joy. And this afternoon we have about another fifty people to be baptized. So I love to give thanks to the Lord for that reason. Thank you for coming back to join the fellowship and to join the worship with us.

Note: there is 5 services in Haidian Church every Sunday, 4 Chinese and 1 English, 1st 7:00-8:00, 2nd 8:30-9:30, 3rd 10:00-11:00, 4th English 11:30-12:30, 5th 14:00-15:30. Welcome to join us to worship our Lord.

Scriptures for Today

Brothers and sisters, let’s focus for a few seconds on Isaiah 46: 3-5. Let’s concentrate on these verses of the Bible for a few seconds. The Bible tells us:

3 “Listen to me, you descendants of Jacob,

   all the remnant of the people of Israel,

you whom I have upheld since your birth,

   and have carried since you were born.

4 Even to your old age and gray hairs

   I am He, I am He who will sustain you.

I have made you and I will carry you;

   I will sustain you and I will rescue you.

    “I will rescue you.” Brothers and sisters, when I was reading Isaiah 46 I was very excited. I was very excited because Isaiah 46: 3-5 tells us about a lot of things, but three of them really struck me.
    Whenever I read this part of the Scripture, I feel very excited, the Scripture actually talks about a lot of things, especially in three areas that strike me:
    1 God’s Unchanging Nature and Unchanging Love
        Isaiah 46:3-5, it talks about the unchanging nature of God, our heavenly Father; It talks about the unchanging caring nature of our Lord, Jesus Christ, no matter who we are, what we do, what we did in the past, yesterday, today or in the future, our Lord continues to love us, and takes care of us, here in this church or in other churches, or in other countries. Maybe some of our brothers and sisters were baptised in this church, now they serve in other churches, Lord continues to love us, guide us in every corner of the world. Our Lord never changes, Jesus is always the same, yesterday, today and forever.
    On Saturday two weeks ago, I was in the US on a mission trip, as it happened one of our Youth Fellowship volunteers of Haidian church was getting married to a Taiwanese in the US, she was excited to find out I was in the US at that time, so she called me up and invited me to come over, from Georgia to Los Angeles, to be her Chinese wedding pastor in LA.  Out of God’s love, I flew over and performed the wedding ceremony, married and blessed the couple as the Lord directed my journey. All of the wedding guests were pleased with the process and understood the wedding details without any difficulty. As we have said our Lord never changes, His love is always with us, no matter where we are on the earth, He loves us! Whenever we call on Him for help, He is right there for us, praise the Lord!  As long as we are faithful to God, miracles happen from time to time.

Wherever you are, God’s love is there with you.

 Wherever you are, our God’s love walks with you.

Wherever you are, our God’s love accompanies you.

One of the things she shared with me sounds a little funny, but I still want to share it with you. She told me that if you ever were a volunteer in Haidian Church, you would be married soon. That was her experience. If you volunteer here, you will be blessed to get a marriage. So I encourage all of you to join the team, to be a volunteer to the English Fellowship. That is wonderful.
       2 Our Relationship with God
Isaiah 46:3-5 also talks about a relationship between heavenly Father and us…. Even when you come to the end of life, God is with us; it talks about a close relationship between us as Christian, with the Lord Jesus. That relationship described as from the time you were born,  until you grow old with grey hair.
    Dear brothers and sisters, we know Moses in the Bible, when Moses was born, his mother and sister had to put him in a basket, and through the basket in the river, Pharaoh’s daughter came to pick him up, all of these were done, because God loves His people, He is in control of everything, so Moses grew up in the palace of Egypt, and had great education in his youth, he was able to get well prepared for the calling of God. For the first 40 years, because of the plan of the Lord.
    After Moses accidentally killed an Egyptian in order to protect his fellow Israeli, he fled to Median desert for another 40 years, he was called by the Lord, to go back to Egypt to bring all Israelis out of Egypt to the promised land Canaan, that is current Palestine. All of these were done, because of the will of God.
    Because of the plan of the Lord, when Moses was born, God was involved, he was able to grew up in Pharaoh’s palace; when Moses was in the wilderness, God was involved, so Moses could be trained for the foundation of his faith, later became the leader for God’s people. Moses had great faith that enable him take up challenges and shoulder more pressure for his people. He was able to bring 60000 people out of Egypt and those people could go to the promised land, establish the kingdom of Israel later.
    All of these were done, because of the will of God, from the beginning of Moses’ life, to the very end of Moses life, God was involved, our Lord has personal relationship with Moses throughout his life. God intends to have life-long relationship with you and me here, all of us, in which our Lord will lead us, bless us, walk with us, and give us peace & grace.

3 A Promise from God to the Old People

        Isaiah 46 is also a promise, an exciting promise for those who are in their older age, the Bible says, even when we grow old, God still loves us and sustain us. It seems to me that our heavenly Father has special favour for older people over younger ones, older people can easily find joy in the Lord.  “Even to your old age I am he, even when you turn gray I will carry you. I have made, and I will bear; I will carry and will save.” Isaiah 46:4.
    In the book of Ruth, there was a lady by the name of Naomi, and there was a famine in the land they lived, so she and her husband, and her two sons’ families went to a foreign land to live, where Moabites were concentrating. Then tragedies happened, all men in the household died, only Naomi and her two daughters-in law still lived together, life became harsh, so Naomi decided to send them away, one of them went back home, but Ruth insisted to stay with her mother-in-law, Ruth 1:16, “Do not press me to leave you, or to turn back from following you! Where you go, I will go; where you lodge, I will lodge; your people shall be my people, and your God my God. Where you die, I will die-there will I be buried. May the Lord do thus and so to me, and more as well, if even death departs me from you!”
    So Naomi and Ruth went back to Naomi’s home town, which is Bethlehem, there they made a living depending on picking wheat. God was in control of everything, Ruth came to know Boaz, the owner of the land where she did her job. Eventually Ruth married to Boaz, the owner of the field, she gave birth to a son, the Bible tells us, Ruth 4:16, “Then Naomi took the child and laid him in her bosom, and became his nurse.” Imagine what kind of feeling it would be, grandma sitting in a chair, playing with this little kid, which is a heavenly joy! That is heavenly happiness for Naomi.
    Now we have talked through Isaiah 46;3-5, we conclude the message is 1) about the unchanging loving nature of God,  no matter who we are, what we did in the past, our Lord loves us, even though the dark force seeks opportunity to devour us, God is always there to help; 2) the life-long relationship with Jesus Christ, not only on earth, also into heaven forever; 3) a promise that Lord always has special favour for His people, young and old, brothers and sisters, in Him we all have His special peace and grace. When we grow old, we will not be ashamed of our grey hair or even no more hair, we will have special favour from our God that is a promise from loving Jesus Christ, who was, who is, who always will be faithful to His people.
    Indeed God has special favour for older people, as older people have lots of life experience, in which God pours lots of blessings into their lives, God’s work in their lives could serve as strong testimonials for younger brothers and sisters to share and learn to be wise, renew our life confidence with the Lord, and renew our relationship with our heavenly Father.
    I encourage you brothers and sisters, to call on our mighty God, -
    “ Father, please sustain me, come to carry me, because you are the only one that is trustworthy, I want to re-establish the life-long relationship with you, from now on to the end of age, please listen to my calling toward you, I want to live a life that glorify your holy name, in Jesus name, Amen!”

Worship Song: You Are My All In All

You are my strength
when I am weak
You are the treasure
that I seek
You are my all in all

Seeking You as a precious jewel
Lord to give up, I'd be a fool
You are my all in all

Jesus, Lamb of God,
worthy is Your name

Jesus, Lamb of God,
worthy is Your name

Taking my sin,
my cross, my shame
Rising again,
I bless your name
You are my all  in  all

When I fall down, You pick me up
When I am dry, You fill my cup
You are my all in all

 Holy Communion Service on the 2nd Sunday each Month

Holy Communion The Lord’s Supper (I Corinthians 11:23-26)

 and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.”

In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.”

For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.
