Do you have the Spirit of truth indwelling you? If you say yes this Spirit is indwelling me, then way do you sometimes tell lies? Surely someone who has a Spirit of truth residing in them could not tell a lie! However, if a Spirit of truth is within you, but you do not turn control over to Him, then you can lie and cheat and commit all kinds of sins. Do you refuse discipline from other humans too! Yes, it is about being disciplined, where most of us have problems, and allowing this Spirit handle the troubling situations in our life.
The Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
John 14:26-27 (NIV)
An insurance company advertises that life contains an IF exactly in the middle of it! If I had not done, so and so, then…! Or, if I had done what I should have, then …! If I could look at life through a lens of WWJD, then …! We are told by the Bible that we live in a fallen world, and that we all have a sin nature! God gave Adam and Eve one command, and they failed to follow His command, and the result is a sin filled world. Then God gave His chosen people ten commands, and these have been passed down to us. We all fail some of these commands at some time in our “if filled” lives.
Jesus gave His earthly followers (us) another IF question in the Gospel of John. "If you love me, you will obey what I command. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you for ever—the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you." (John 14:15-17) Notice what Jesus said, "If you love me, you will obey what I command.” Then He “will give you another Counselor to be with you for ever—the Spirit of truth. First obey the commands, and then the Spirit will come. Because Jesus died for your sins, and you accepted Him as your Savior, you can obey His commands! The Spirit of truth will then come to help you maintain your “ifs” in this life!
"You heard me say, ‘I am going away and I am coming back to you.’ If you loved me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I. I have told you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe. I will not speak with you much longer, for the prince of this world is coming. He has no hold on me, but the world must learn that I love the Father and that I do exactly what my Father has commanded me." (John 14:28-31) In this passage Jesus is telling His disciples that He must do as the Father commands, which of course was that He must suffer death on that cross! Now we know that after His death He arose and ascended back into heaven to be with our Father.
Our Father Who is in heaven; listen to our prayers, as we pray with the help of the Spirit of truth that Jesus left on this earth for us! YOU have a helper, will you allow Him to help you, or would you rather do it yourself? Only you can decide if you can humble enough to first, admit you need help, and then to accept help from the Spirit of truth!
Jesus/God knows you are a sinner, which is why you need a Savior, you cannot save yourself. Are you still doing it on your own, because you believe you can? Jesus told us we need to be attached to Him at all times, or we cannot accomplish anything. "I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. (John 15:5) God sent this Holy Spirit to us, so that we could know how to communicate with Him. Will you admit you need help to communicate with God? Open your heart to the Spirit of truth, and then communicate with your heavenly Father, He wants your attention and relationship!
Did you get that, He wants you to talk to Him, and form a relationship! Jesus is back in heaven and He wants you to be His friend. Jesus said, “You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.” (John 15:14-15) “What A Friend We Have In Jesus!”
